2121 Channing Way (between Shattuck and Fulton)

The Berkeley Buddhist Temple is located 5 blocks south of the Berkeley Bart
Station.
by AC Transit
AC Transit lines 40, 43, 64, and F will stop within 1 block of the Temple.
Or take lines 7, 8, 9, 15, 51, 65, or 67 and get off at the Berkeley BART
Station and walk 5 blocks south to the Temple.
Driving from the East
Take 580 West to Dublin. Take 680 North to Walnut Creek.
Take 24 West towards Oakland. After passing through the
Caldecott Tunnel, take the Berkeley exit onto Tunnel Road (highway 13).
Continue West on Tunnel Road past the Claremont Hotel. Tunnel Road
will become Ashby Avenue. Continue on Ashby Avenue past Telegraph Avenue
to Shattuck Avenue. Turn right on Shattuck Avenue. Continue on Shattuck
Avenue to Channing Way. (You will see Berkeley Toyota and Blockbuster
Video.)
Turn Right on Channing Way. The Temple is the second building on the left.
Alternate route from the East:
Take 580 West all the way to Oakland. Take Highway 13 (Warren Freeway)
to Berkeley. Continue on Highway 13 to Tunnel Road as described above.
Driving from the West or South or North
Take Interstate 80 to Berkeley and take the University Avenue Exit.
Take University Avenue East approximately one mile to Shattuck Avenue.
Turn right on Shattuck Avenue and go approximately 1/4 mile to
Channing Way. (You will see Berkeley Toyota and Blockbuster Video.)
Turn Left on Channing Way. The Temple is the second building on the left.
Street Parking
Please do not park in the parking lot on the west side of the
Temple (even on Sundays) as it is reserved for visitors of Southside Plaza.
On Sundays, there is usually ample (free) street parking on Shattuck Avenue,
especially south of Channing Way.
On days other than Sunday, you may try your luck with metered street parking.
There is 2-hour free parking in the residential neighborhood, which is three
blocks to the south (south of Dwight Way), or two blocks to the west (west of
Martin Luther King Jr. Way.)
Parking Lots
- Berkeley High School "Tennis Courts" Parking Lot
Hours: When school is not in session
Location: Milvia St., enter on Durant or Bancroft
Cost: about $10
- Oxford St. Public Parking Lot
Hours: M-Sun 8am-midnight
Cost: 1-2hrs $1.50, 2-3hrs $3.50, 3-4 $6.50, etc. After 5pm flat fee
of $2. Sunday parking is free all day.
Location: Between Allston Way & Kittredge; entrance on Kittredge
St. (Fulton becomes Oxford St. at Bancroft Way)
- UCB Public Parking Lots (please read signs at each lot)
Public Hours: M-F 5pm-2am, Sat. & Sun. 7am-2am
Cost: $1 per 1/2 hour or $7 flat fee. The maching takes
$1 and $5 bills. If possible, do not use coins because the machine may
fill up and stop working.
Locations:
- Bancroft/Fulton Lot - enter on Durant Ave. or Bancroft Way
- Banway, 2111 Bancroft Way (pay at Bancroft/Fulton lot's ticket dispenser);
- Ellsworth St. Structure - enter on Haste or Channing Way.
- City of Berkeley Parking Lot
Kittredge Street between Shattuck and Milvia which costs $2.00 per hour
up to a maximum of $12.00 (as of 4/18/02).
