BERKELEY BUDDHIST TEMPLE
…
Welcome
Whether you are a first time, or relatively new visitor who wants to experience what we have to offer
- we warmly welcome you to our temple. We extend our sincere appreciation for your interest in our temple's programs.
Our Temple was started in Berkeley over ninety years ago by Issei (first generation) pioneers from Japan. Though today we are still enjoying the ethnic traditions that they brought to our American shores, we are experiencing the exciting beginnings of broadening our base to include a multi-culturalism that can enhance and deepen our understanding of Jodo-Shinshu Buddhism.
Our resident minister is Reverend David Matsumoto.
Our Sunday program consists of a Dharma Family Service at 9:30am. A Dharma talk is available after the Family Service while Dharma School classes are convened for the students. A Shotsuki Hoyo (Monthly Memorial Service) is held the last Sunday of each month.
Our Dharma School (Sunday School) has classes from preschool through high school. Our teachers are more than happy to discuss the appropriate level of spiritual enrichment for your child, should this area be of interest to you.
Other religious programs include: Adult Dharma Discussions, Dharma Study Sessions, and Meditation Sittings. Our temple also offers Buddhist books for sale (on display in the lobby).
All in all, whenever you come to our temple, please feel free to ask someone for information. We are here to assist you with whatever level of participation you may be seeking. If, by chance, you are here to satisfy a slight interest rather than to make a more personal connection, we wish you well and hope that you will be visiting us again soon.
